Board-Certified Family Law Specialist | Certified Family Financial Mediator | Certified Parenting Coordinator

Melissa is a Board-Certified Family Law Specialist who has devoted nearly two decades exclusively to the practice of family law. She represents clients in complex matters involving custody, child support, equitable distribution, alimony, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, and domestic violence proceedings. Melissa is known for her strategic advocacy, financial sophistication, and steady guidance during some of the most difficult transitions in her clients’ lives.

In 2014, Melissa earned certification from the North Carolina State Bar as a Board-Certified Family Law Specialist, a distinction reserved for attorneys who demonstrate substantial experience, advanced knowledge, and high professional standards in their field. She has also been selected to North Carolina Super Lawyers (an honor awarded to only 5% of attorneys statewide) and named to Business North Carolina’s Legal Elite in Family Law, recognitions that reflect both peer respect and professional excellence.

In addition to her litigation practice, Melissa is a Certified Family Financial Mediator through the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission and a Certified Parenting Coordinator. Her mediation philosophy centers on empowering families to reach thoughtful, self-determined resolutions whenever possible. She believes durable agreements are built through informed decision-making, practical problem-solving, and a focus on long-term stability, especially where children are involved.

Melissa is also a frequent guest on legal podcasts, where she shares insight on family law developments, financial issues in divorce, custody dynamics, and practical strategies for navigating separation with clarity and confidence.

Melissa is actively engaged in the legal and broader Raleigh community. She serves on the Child Custody and Child Support Committee for the Family Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association. Beyond her legal work, she has served on the Board of Directors for the Foundation for Good Business, contributed as a Panel Coordinator for Athena Powerlink, and co-chaired the annual Prevent Blindness Gala benefiting Prevent Blindness North Carolina, supporting access to vision screenings for children and adults in need.

Melissa earned her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and her Juris Doctor from Campbell University School of Law.
