Judge David H. Strickland was a District Court Judge for the 26th Judicial District in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina for the past 8 years serving from 2013-2020. Judge Strickland presided over all areas of District Court with a focus on family/juvenile related matters while on the bench. Judge Strickland also heard thousands of criminal and civil matters including domestic violence protective order hearings.
Judge Strickland was born and raised in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Judge Strickland attended Washington and Lee University for one year participating on both the basketball and golf teams. Judge Strickland transferred to Wake Forest and graduated in 1999.
Judge Strickland attended law school at the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University and graduated in 2002.
Judge Strickland began his legal career at the Mecklenburg County Public Defenders Office and later became an associate with the law firm of Whitesides and Walker.
Judge Strickland owned and operated the Law Office of David H Strickland, PLCC from 2005-2012 where he had a broad array of clients and focused his time in the courtroom on a daily basis. Judge Strickland was elected to the bench and began his service in 2013.
Judge Strickland was proud to be ranked the No. 1 Judge in Mecklenburg County in a survey conducted by the North Carolina Bar Association in 2016.
Judge Strickland is active in the community serving on the Governor’s Crime Commission for 2 years.
Judge Strickland has also volunteered at numerous elementary schools over the last 8 years spending 20 weeks a year running a truancy court program leading to increase in attendance for young children in school.
Judge Strickland also works with the Wake Forest University LAUNCH program and their summer enrichment program for juveniles in the local area.
Judge Strickland’s grandfather, Hugh Strickland, owned and operated Hugh G. Strickland, Inc., where he was a general contractor and built numerous buildings in the Winston-Salem and Triad area. Judge Strickland’s father, Gary Strickland, now owns the business and the company continues to be successful and serve the Piedmont area. Judge Strickland’s first job was working in the summer during high school on construction projects that Hugh G. Strickland, Inc. operated.
Judge Strickland is a member of Carolina Golf Club and enjoys playing golf and supporting Wake Forest athletics and the Los Angeles Dodger baseball team. Judge Strickland also enjoy officiating high school basketball and has officiated 7 North Carolina State Championship basketball games.
